What is your subject of study?
3d character
performance with in a composited film.
What is your research question?
A study of 3d character performance
that evidences humor as part of a composited film.
Research aim:
1.
An investigation of humor with in English and Chinese animation.
2.
Producing a short composited film that evidences some of the
understanding gained from the previous research aim.
Research objectives:
Create a story and make storyboard for this story
Evidence appropriate research of what is humour and how it can be
applied to an animated character’s performance e.g.
l
What does funny character look like (I will research what others have done
before in works that are considered culture), how to create a lovely/funny/cute
character, and how many elements influence character and make it lovely/funny/cute.
l
Body language which is humours funny, what has already been done by
others. How many styles of funny action to present their emotion.
Make a small animation work that includes 3d character and its incorporation
within a short composited film.
To also answer the following questions by showing a movie and
discussing the humour.

How their culture influence animation between two countries. Give

Humour common between two countries.

Globalisation influence people’s point view about humour

Is there a change in humorous animation and what is the audience

context of your project?
Culture behind artefacts,
especially humour culture which behind animation between China and British,
What is change animation
development in early and modern life? What is different between early and modern
humour in audients heart.
How it is
changed? And why? is it a good thing or bad thing for animation. What others point
view, include audients, artist and animation company.
How is the
process of my practical work? Including aspect of Body languages, Film theories,
Lens Language, Puppetry-making-(3d character), Characteristics of motion between
real life and exaggerated characters, Character Design, Computer skills application

How does the
project relate to your previous experience/practice?
My previous work about character design, I was studied the basic 3d
animation and make a piece of work as well, 3years ago I had created a story
for stop motion work.

How does it
relate to relevant current practices, debates and theory?
My current practice about 3d technique of
animation, debates is how to make funny 3d character and their performance.

Why is the
intended research significant? (So what?)
Nowadays, 3d animation film more popular than
before, its visual effects and colourful picture attract audience. Animation good-looking or not depends on character's performances to a
certain extent. So performance of 3d
character is a worth project to deep research.

How does this
project relate to your plans for the future?
It will help me
development my theory and skills at animation, also an important part for next
step of researches.
Methodology

What methods will be applied e.g. survey of
literature, practice led research, questionnaires, focus groups e.t.c.?
Focus groups: according to my basic research, set
up a focus group to talk about humours in animation between British and China
by showing example films and discussing the humour.
